Founding Partner
Black Griffin was founded by Ivan Van der Walt in 2024 after 30+ years of industry leadership in the global energy sector. Ivan holds a degree in Engineering Technology and has developed and delivered mega projects on 5 continents. He has served in roles spanning from junior engineer to CEO, as well as various positions in between. He has delivered projects in excess of $60 billion many of which were in remote locations with challenging regulatory requirements. He has managed public companies and project teams in excess of 10,000 on multiple construction sites. He has authored and co-authored 41 patents including; improved efficiency in liquefied natural gas process, natural gas pipeline emission reductions and efficiency, power generation, generation of ammonia, hydrogen generation, ethanol, data centers, carbon capture utilization and sequestration. Ivan has extensive experience in engineering and design of facilities, financial modelling, environmental, social, permitting and regulatory requirements, commercial agreements, and operational readiness.
